Hello, lovely listeners, and welcome to Zero Waste Imperfectly. I'm your host, sheila, and I am the owner of Life Essentials Refillery, a sustainable grocery store in Tampa and in Wesley Chapel. So today I want to talk to you about switching away from liquid soaps, and the number one reason for switching away is the reduced packaging. If you go to a bar of soap, you have lots of options to choose from, but it is possible to find soap that comes package-free, and that's what we sell in our store. So you just get the bar of soap, nothing else is attached, and that's all you need to use. Second, it takes a whole lot less water to make a bar of soap instead of a liquid soap, and bar soap just lasts longer. So I know with my three kids you give them liquid soap and they're squirting it all over the place and all of a sudden the bottle is empty, like, oh my goodness, where did it all go? So another reason.
Speaker 1:Now, if you, depending on which bar of soap you choose, you can find bars of soaps that are made with natural ingredients. So we sell soap here that's made from coconut oil, lye and water, but then you can get all kinds of different oils and butters added, and you can also choose if you want fragrance or essential oils, and so it's entirely up to you how clean you want your product to be. But there are lots of options out there. It's versatile. Not only can you use your bar of soap for washing your body, you can use it for your hands and, depending on the type, we even have some for dishes, and, of course, you can get bar soap for your hair too.
Speaker 1:So bar soap is travel friendly, so you don't need to worry about bringing a squeeze bottle that needs to be in a Ziploc bag and it leaking all over your suitcase. It's just super easy and it supports local businesses. You will find, no matter where you are, a local soap maker, and if, for some reason, you cannot, it's really easy to make it home. So switching to bar soap, it just makes sense. It may take you a while to get used to it and you may say, oh, my goodness, it's gonna get all slimy in the shower, but there are so many cool contraptions now to help avoid that, and they're called soap savers, and they work really well, whether it's for your shampoo bar, your regular bar soap in the kitchen or in the bathroom, wherever, there are definitely options out there to make sure you don't get slimy soap, because that's really gross. But thanks for tuning in.
